Millikan Boats M.10

Millikan Boats M.10

Millikan Boats is a designer of innovative boats, with whom our agency has designed and developed the M.10, the first fully autonomous 30-foot electro-solar catamaran. Driven by strong values – innovation, respect for the environment and the pleasure of sailing – the brand offers a new alternative, based on 100% electric propulsion.

The result is a boat that is stable, silent, comfortable and particularly economical, offering stress-free sailing.

This new generation has found the optimum balance between high-performance solar generation, lightweight batteries, high-efficiency motors and hydrodynamic hulls.

This new generation has found the optimum balance between high-performance solar generation, lightweight batteries, high-efficiency motors and hydrodynamic hulls. True to its DNA, Millikan Boats offers the sensations of sailing combined with the comfort and ease of use of combustion engines, thanks to the collaboration with our naval architecture agency, Vincent Lebailly Yacht Design.

Descriptif du Millikan Boats M.10

The M.10 is environmentally friendly

The M.10 is equipped with two solar-powered wings that deploy as soon as it leaves the harbour. Powered by two simple yet powerful marine jacks, they are held in position by a system of ends and cleats. This system offers an elegant opening kinematics, inspired by the flight of a bird.

These solar wings also incorporate flexible panels on each side. This configuration allows the sun’s reflection on the surface of the water to be exploited effectively to maximise energy production. In particular, the inside of the wings helps to generate up to 20% more electricity, optimising solar capture even in low sunlight conditions.

Performance through functional design

When returning to port, the wings fold gently. The system relies on a hoist, guided by one end. Once folded, the wings close the deck cabin on each side. This system improves compactness when moored and enhances passenger privacy.

The roof of the M.10 incorporates ten SUNPOWER Maxeon solar panels, among the most efficient on the market. Each panel produces up to 450 W. Designed to withstand the elements, including hail, they are also easy to maintain. Their smooth surface makes them easy to clean of salt after use.

These panels are highly durable. Their yield loss remains limited to 0.02% per year after five years. They also come with a 40-year manufacturer’s warranty.

With a total output of almost 6 kWp, this solar installation is a world first for a boat of this size. It puts the M.10 at the forefront of autonomous and sustainable yachting.

Electric propulsion: powerful and economical

The M.10 is powered by two high-efficiency electric motors of 20 kW each, the equivalent of a 75 hp combustion engine. In this way, the M.10 functions like a boat whose “tank” is continuously recharged by solar energy, both when sailing and when stationary.

Intelligent energy management

One of the M.10’s major assets is its ability to recover energy even under kite sail. In this configuration, the motors are switched off. However, the solar panels continue to recharge the batteries. This intelligent management of energy extends the range and expands the possibilities for sailing.

At 7 knots, consumption balances out with solar production on a typical day, from 9 am to 8 pm. If necessary, a safety speed of 12 knots is available. This allows you to sail for an hour, enough time to get away from danger quickly. Over the course of a day, the M.10 can cover more than 100 nautical miles without interruption.
